HUMAN | URBAN | CREATIVE TEXTURES – International Workshop of practices and visions for culture-led urban regenaration and performing heritage
project by: Creactivitas and Alto Fest in collaboration with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Rome
The spaces of contemporary cities are undergoing a crisis, revealing itself in the difficulty of giving new sense and purposes to the different locations in the urban context. These spaces gradually disconnected from the dynamics of social interaction and from value creation processes.
In this context, appropriate strategies become fundamental in order to reconnect these spaces to the city and to give them back to their community, as essential places. Culture can be the right driver, moving the boundaries of imagination and generating new senses. Cultural activities engage persons’ active participation and and may give an important contribution to this phenomenon, drawing connective networks in the cities. The circulation of cognitive fluxes (art, knowledge, creativity) can stimulate new visions and create new projects.
Performing interventions may be real drivers of re-generation thanks to their ability to tell which are the re-defining purposes and features of urban spaces. Involved spaces turn then into places proposing experiences of relationship and knowledge, living emotional and sensory perceptive experiences that leave traces in their memory. City Heritage becomes itself Performing Heritage thanks to its elements that create relationships and that become environments in which learning, sharing and exchanging knowledge. While providing new cultural contents, these environments strengthen the sense of belonging, the social inclusion and the skills to develop a community.

Creactivitas and Alto Fest in collaboration with the Embassy of the Netherlands, promote an international workshop about these themes. In a multi-disciplinary perspective operators coming form different countries will compare their experiences and will work with experts from several fields in order to identify the possible routes and the spaces for the intervention of culture, through performing projects, to lead the transformation and future development of cities through the modification of the spaces, creating new senses.
