Call For Volunteers

So welcome are all good willing people, inspiring persons, students in the management of art and cultural project, or young professional that want to go beyond the boundaries of the usual way of conceiving the performing arts

Being part of #PEOPLEofALTOFEST means meeting and working with international artists, with a highly qualified organization, for a project that won the EFFE AWARD 2017-18 as one of the 6 Best Festival in Europe!

Altofest Malta will develop from the 9th of April to the 13th of May in 4 different areas of the island, in alternating and overlapping periods. Each area will involve 5 different international artists / companies.

The artists’ commitment will be of 15 days divided in Residency period with the Opening to the Audience in the last 3 days.

The venues are different private spaces donated by the citizens (typical Maltese houses or specific spaces related with groups of citizens representing local communities)

Artists will live and work in the assigned spaces with the Space Donor.  

The creative processes will be observed and analyzed by a Critique Panel, and discussed during 4 Public Talk (one per different area), and documented through photos and videos.

30th – 13rd May > Valletta; Birgu; Bormla; Sliema; Gzira (30th April – 9th May artistic residency; 10th May public talk; 11st, 12nd, 13rd May performances

During the month of March, the volunteers will have the opportunity to follow the work of the artistic direction and the team of Altofest Malta. We will work together on the schedule of events, organizing the logistics, and promotion. Part of the work will take place in the house/office that hosts us (which will be in Valletta or in Floriana), another part in direct contact with Maltese citizens directly involved in the project. This part of the work will be focused on the care of the relationships, building the best condition to let the citizens enjoy the project that they belong. Because Altofest Malta is developed along 4 different areas of Malta, really welcome are all those people that have a car!
Also, we will gather essential information on the programmed artists, and we will be in touch with them to welcome and solve their technical requests. For the promotion, we will approach the aesthetical discourse that is at the base of Altofest Malta, to spread it, talking with any kind of person.

Anyone interested in following the production of Altofest Malta since March will have the opportunity to increase their knowledge in cultural management, especially for community-based projects. A daily availability of at least 3 hours is required.

Due to the specific nature of Altofest, a community-based process focusing on the relationship between people, built through a horizontal action, Altofest gives birth to a new community, composed of Citizens, international artists, researchers, staff, celebrating together the sense of beauty in daily life. The volunteers will be part of the official staff. They will have the possibility to be deeply involved in the process, learning, experiencing, and building Altofest. For this reason, we need motivated people, that don’t mind about time and heavy work, people that are passionate and want to improve their knowledge in cultural management and realization of artistic and social projects; people that are ready to do their best for the success of the project, also by doing several and different things. We want to stress that Altofest staff is horizontal, also composed by the artistic direction itself. Usually, we work together as a big family, “for better or for worse”. At the end of the project, all the members of the staff will receive an official certificate by the artistic direction, stating the acquired knowledge.
