Performance as a communication platform- constant exploration, critical aspect andcreating a space of values between people.

[/wptab] [wptab name=’ARTIST STATEMENT’] Performance is for us a platform of communication. Usually we work separately but
this field we find proper for a collective work. According to us performance as an intermedial
fact. Our attempt is to treat performance in relation to object, film, painting etc.
We try to use our original background, which is painting to construct our own unique
language. We believe it is extremely important to make use of our specific ‘way of
perceiving and seeing’, derived from our visual art experience. An extremely
significant element of the work is space. For that reason we are particularly dedicated
to site specific work that considers and leads a dialogue with an existing space. Our
collective is interested critical aspects of art that challenges accepted patterns about
art status in society, everyday life and art market. We do also work with memory, both
personal and collective. We attempt to build our language in reference to public and
private spheres trying to find a balance between internal and public gesture.

We enrolled to a performance studio in the University of Arts in Poznan, Poland, led by
Janusz Bałdyga, a Polish performer. Being in this studio has been crucial for us. I
believe that the most important thing we’ve been learning is the importance of single
gesture and meaning of objects as well as the status of symbols. This experience
made us also aware of the significance of simple yet forceful gestures. By this time we
participated in several events, which made us understand our main points of interest.
Recently we took part in a performance festival, which helped us to place ourselves in
a wider perspective of different approaches to performing arts. The conclusion is: we
do not identify with narration nor with overuse of metaphor and captivating trickery.

Being in studio led by Janusz Bałdyga is very influential for us. We came to know wide
context of Polish performance art that is significant as well for us as for the whole
performance art scene. Very often it operates with simple language and is profoundly
related to the performer body. The artist and his body become the object and the
subject of the art piece. It also examines the sense of testing and exceeding the
boundaries both in social and personal context. We are also deeply affected by the
legacy of Fluxus art movement and Polish conceptual art. Obviously we do not try to
continue their tradition. We rather became aware of it by the analysis of our work and
putting it in a wider context. Thing that are in common would be the use of absurd,
interest in social status of art and artist as well as questioning accepted art patterns.
Moreover we are very much into trans-medial actions that question the boundaries
between the disciplines.
